On April 22, 2021 the community of Huston Texas woke up to find racial slurs spray painted over an artistic mural of the late George Floyd.
George Perry Floyd Jr. was an African American man murdered by police during an arrest after a store clerk alleged he had passed a counterfeit $20 bill in Minneapolis. Derek Chauvin, one of four police officers who arrived on the scene, knelt on Floyd's neck and back for 9 minutes and 29 seconds. The events of George Floyds murder sparked an outrage world wide.
Derek Chauvin was recently charged all all three charges in the George Floyd case. The jury found Chauvin, 45, guilty of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. He could face up to 40 years in prison for second-degree murder, up to 25 years for third-degree murder, and up to 10 years for second-degree manslaughter.
The vandalism happened overnight. Daniel Anguilu, the artist, said it was the third time racist slurs were left and like as before, Anguilu got busy restoring the mural.
